One of the biggest questions potential buyers have to answer is whether they buy dome or bullet cameras, and examples of both can be found right here on this site. They each have very different characteristics but also both do a very good job, so this guide is here to help you decide which you should opt for when purchasing CCTV cameras from us.
The first thing to think about is whether you want the cameras to be obvious or not. Most people would automatically assume that a more hidden camera is the best way to go, but this is not always the case. Bullet cameras are more obvious to the eye, but this is often a good thing. It means that potential criminals will notice them and therefore decide not to commit the act they had in mind – making the bullet camera an excellent crime prevention device. Dome cameras, on the other hand, are more discreet and therefore have more chance of catching people in the act, but not of preventing them from doing it in the first place.
Where you are going to place the cameras is also a consideration that needs to be made. While both cameras are easy to fix to any surface, dome cameras, thanks to their shape, are best suited to placement on ceilings, where they can sit flush against the surface. Bullet cameras are better when being placed on walls, as the design provides more flexibility as to the direction the camera points in.
The potential for vandalism is another point that needs to be considered, as CCTV cameras are often targeted by potential thieves and other criminals. Dome cameras have, in general, got a highly strengthened casing, making them resistant to a vandal’s efforts, while bullet cameras can be slightly more brittle. This means that dome cameras are best for areas with a high chance of vandalism, while bullet cameras should be placed out of reach of people. One advantage to most bullet cameras is that they have a cable mounted bracket though, meaning that the cable is protected from damage.
