Hikvision have recently updated firmware for their products to improve the password procedure – the latest products will require you to “activate” them, before use.
This basically happens the first time you log in – you will now be prompted to create a new password of between 8-16 characters, once you go through this procedure your new product will be activated.
Please be aware, if you order a DVR / NVR from us with a hard drive fitted – we test and initialise hard drives in your new item to make sure the hard drive is fully working before we ship it to you. This means, we will activate the unit and assign it a new password – this will always be “jmc12345”. Please be sure you change this password when you first get your DVR/NVR.
Hikvision have provided some guides to help with activating or resetting your password – see the below links:

Hikvsions newly manufactured devices with the latest firmware no longer have a default password. When using the device for the first time, users need to activate the device through a compulsory password setting.
Although this may be a little more complicated than a default password system, it has been created with your security in mind, as many people were not changing the default password which is a security risk. Infact, even with this new procedure it is good practice to change the passwords periodically.
